Principal Advisor | Pivotal
He serves as principal advisor to Pivotal, where he works on helping enterprises transform the way they write, build, and operate software. He's also the cofounder of a tiny analytics monitoring and reporting project called UpHex.
John lives in Charlottesville, VA and likes meta-jokes, milkshakes, and referring to himself in the third person in speaker bios.
The need for philosophies like SRE, DevOps, and observability is often greatest in enterprises because of their scale and conservative approach to adopting new technologies or ideas. But these organizations are often the hardest to approach from a developer-relations and enablement standpoint, so the organizations can be frustratingly opaque to developer advocates and other DevRel personnel.
John has been working closely with over a dozen Fortune 500 companies in the past five years to drive significant changes in the way that they approach their application portfolio and developer experiences, and in a consulting role on over fifty more. This talk will distill the key points he has learned from these experiences, and offer concrete actions that attendees can take to improve their interactions with these companies and the key people who work for them.
